Recovery Advocate
Michael is a native Houstonian who began his mental health career here at Luna. He holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Houston and is currently earning his Master's in Clinical Psychology at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He has a lifelong passion for science and once planned to become a chemist, and since aligning his career with mental health care he hopes to complete his schooling and become a licensed psychologist.
Michael believes what helps people heal and recover is meeting them where they are and providing a safe space to explore recovery at their own pace. He leads his work as a Recovery Advocate by remaining an advocate for clients: when someone has a question or a concern, or asks for help or guidance, he does his very best to assist them or point them to the staff member who can best help. While he does not practice any specific therapies in this role, he leads with empathy, hope, connection, and a genuine desire to help clients find recovery.
Michael is involved in service commitments through recovery spaces across the Houston area and has a strong passion for altruism and for giving back to the recovery communities that have helped him so much. He has also contributed to mental health research, specifically on topics concerning populations in substance use recovery.
In his spare time, Michael loves to fish, write poetry, read, play guitar, and spend quality time with his many friends, family, and loved ones.
