Marlena Nip
Marlena facilitates PHP and IOP groups, as well as providing individual and couples therapy. She approaches her work by acknowledging that every individual is unique in their story and their needs, ensuring that she spends time really getting to know each client to provide the most effective treatment plan for them.
Prior to Luna, Marlena worked in the Admission department at the Menninger Clinic. She completed her clinical internship at the Hope and Healing Center & Institute providing individual and group therapy following the modalities of CBT and DBT. Marlena is a big proponent of mindfulness and has a strong belief that regular mindfulness practice can help people move towards inner peace.
Marlena received her undergraduate degree from Loyola Marymount University and her Master of Social Work from the University of Houston. One of her most notable career accomplishments was transitioning from working as a teacher and school administrator to social work.
She makes a difference for clients by creating space for them to be their authentic selves without judgment. She has genuine interest in people's cultural backgrounds and how that has contributed to the person they are today, helping clients learn how past experiences shape how they navigate their worlds.
Outside of work, Marlena used to have a flock of backyard chickens (Ruth and Winnie now live with her mother's flock, Larry and Penny). She's always training for another running race, and enjoys eating at Houston's newest James Beard nominated restaurants and cafes.
