Professional Journey

Dr. Jon Stevens began his career in psychiatric research at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, Maryland, before earning both his medical degree and Master of Public Health in Health Care Management at New York Medical College. He completed his adult psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital, affiliated with Harvard Medical School. His early leadership work included directing a pediatric inpatient psychiatric unit at North Shore Medical Center and serving as Physician-in-Charge at Henry Ford Health System, where he also treated people with autism and developmental disabilities. In Houston, he led child and adolescent psychiatry and outpatient services at The Menninger Clinic and later served as its Vice President of Growth and Innovation. He also held an associate professorship at Baylor College of Medicine. He went on to found Psych Insight, InnerSpace, and JR Stevens Clinical Partners to extend personalized, physician-led psychiatric care and innovative treatment programs. Triple board-certified in psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and obesity medicine, he has authored peer-reviewed publications and received recognition for clinical teaching and leadership.

Dr. Stevens believes meaningful recovery begins with an accurate understanding of the whole person, not just a diagnosis. His approach is collaborative, clinically rigorous, and individualized. He combines careful psychiatric assessment, evidence-based medication management, attention to physical health, and measurement-informed follow-up with close coordination among therapists, nursing, and medical providers. He brings particular experience with complex, treatment-resistant, and co-occurring psychiatric and substance use conditions, and with advanced interventions such as ketamine-based treatment and transcranial magnetic stimulation when clinically appropriate. At Luna, his focus is on strengthening the systems and clinical partnerships that help patients receive coordinated, compassionate, and safe care.

Areas of focus:

  • Complex mood, anxiety, and psychotic disorders
  • Substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions
  • Comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and personalized psychopharmacology
  • ADHD, autism, and other neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Treatment-resistant illness, interventional psychiatry, and measurement-based care

Dr. Stevens is an active educator and speaker on psychiatric diagnosis, addiction, ketamine treatment, ADHD, psychosis, and clozapine. In 2026, he presented on ketamine and substance dependence at the East Coast Symposium on Addictive Disorders and participated in a continuing education program on reducing barriers to clozapine treatment. His service has included teaching and mentoring physicians in training. He received Baylor College of Medicine’s Outstanding Clinical Supervisor recognition and the Community Leader Award from Workshop Houston in 2017.
