Recovery Advocate
Hart is a Recovery Advocate who supports clients as they adjust to life in recovery. Sober since 2019, he was born and raised in New Orleans and has been part of the recovery community there and in South Florida, having spent time in recovery programs across Louisiana, Florida, and Colorado. He brings both personal experience and compassion to supporting others on their recovery journey.
Hart believes his primary responsibility as a recovery advocate is to be a vocal supporter for clients. Active listening and sharing his own experience are, in his view, crucial to helping clients get adjusted to this new chapter of their lives. Practicing empathy, keeping an open mind, and making sure clients feel heard and seen are the most important parts of the job to him, and he works to keep the living space consistently warm and inviting.
Before working in behavioral health, Hart spent nine years as a sports reporter and was recognized nationally for his work twice. One of the accomplishments he is most proud of is creating a six part podcast on mental health and athletics, including two episodes that focused heavily on addiction. He has since moved to Houston with plans to earn a Master of Social Work and begin work as a mental and behavioral health therapist, and he practices Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a primary means of maintaining his own recovery and managing life. His areas of focus include addiction recovery, managing anxiety, maintaining a positive mindset, and staying safe.
New to the Houston area, Hart is hoping to get involved in community work very soon. Outside of work, he is a massive fan of sports and movies, has lived in nine states, has two cats named Pippin and Buddy, and enjoys going to the gym, attending live music events, and writing.
