Education and Skills Development
We are proud to offer a welcoming, well-established practicum and internship program for students pursuing licensure in clinical mental health counseling and related fields.
A Hands-On Approach
We offer practicum and internship placements in chemical dependency counseling and clinical mental health counseling.
Our team has extensive experience supervising practicum and internship students pursuing licensure as social workers, professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, and psychiatric nurse practitioners. We also support students enrolled in addiction counseling programs who are completing the 270 practicum hours required for LCDC licensure.
Practicum and internship placements at Luna are educational, non-paid training experiences designed to meet academic and licensure requirements while offering meaningful, hands-on clinical exposure. At Luna, we are committed to providing a supportive learning environment that encourages professional development while delivering high-quality care to the communities we serve.
We partner with a wide range of graduate-level programs that support licensure pathways in behavioral health and addiction counseling. Our experience includes working with local universities such as the University of Houston, Houston Christian University, and Texas Southern University; online programs like the University of the Southwest; and out-of-state institutions, including Tulane University's School of Social Work.
We have also collaborated with addiction-focused programs supporting students on the path to becoming Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDC). We welcome students from all accredited programs and are always open to building new partnerships.
LCDC Track
If you are seeking a practicum site to complete up to 300 hours of approved supervised field work in chemical dependency counseling, please follow these application guidelines. Some expectations will vary.
Requirements
We require our practicum and internship students to fulfill the following minimum requirements:
Capstone Experience
As part of the internship experience, all graduate-level interns are required to complete a capstone-style project designed to support continuous improvement in the quality of care we provide. Projects may include enhancing clinical assessments, reviewing and revising policies and procedures, conducting research using outcomes data, or pursuing another initiative aligned with the intern's interests and Luna Integrative Care's clinical goals.
Interns will work closely with their supervisor and other clinicians to select a project that aligns with both their learning goals and the needs of Luna Integrative Care. The project will be developed and worked on throughout the internship, and progress will be reflected in mid-term and final evaluations required by the intern's school.
Application Process
If you want to begin your practicum or internship in the Summer or Fall semesters, please follow the schedule below.
January 1st - February 28th:
Applicants may begin emailing their resumes and cover letters. Once we receive an emailed resume, we will send a link to a Google Form for the applicant to complete.
February - March 31st:
We will follow up with all applicants to schedule an interview or let them know if it is not the right fit. Interviews will be held during this time period as well. Applicants will be invited to a second interview so additional members of our clinical team can participate in the process.
Mid-April:
We will notify all applicants whether they were accepted or not. If we extend an offer, the student will be given a deadline to accept or decline.
Onboarding:
Once an offer is accepted, HR will be notified to start the onboarding process. The applicant MUST complete ALL onboarding items and receive the final approval from HR before intern orientation. Onboarding consists of paperwork, a background check, and a drug screen. Failure to complete the onboarding process will result in a forfeiture of your placement.
Intern Orientation:
Intern orientation will be held on the third Friday of May. Details will be sent out after offers have been accepted.
Fall placement availability is dependent on whether the positions were filled during Spring interviews. If you are seeking to begin in the Fall semester and missed the deadlines above, please send us your resume no later than July 31st.
Spring placement availability is dependent on many factors, as these positions are typically filled during the Spring interviews the previous year. If you are seeking to begin in the Spring semester and missed the deadlines above, please send us your resume no later than November 30th.
