GENERAL

How do I know if I have a drinking problem?

If alcohol or drugs are starting to negatively impact your day-to-day life, then you may have a problem—especially if you’ve tried to cut back or control your cravings and have been unsuccessful.

How do I know if my child has a problem with drugs or alcohol?

If you feel like your child might be struggling with drugs or alcohol, please give us a call and we’ll work to answer your questions. The call is confidential.

Can I talk to you about a friend who needs help?

If you have questions on how to approach a friend who may need help, please call us.

Can an alcoholic really recover from alcoholism?

Yes. Someone who struggles with alcohol and substance use disorder can recover in the sense that they will no longer need addictive substances to cope in their daily lives.

I recently relapsed after being sober. Can you still help me?

Absolutely. We have a wide variety of levels of care to meet you where you are. Give us a call and we can help you come up with a plan to get back on track.

Will I have to go to AA?

No. We’re a clinical service. At Luna, we focus on the therapy and treatment that works for you. We do encourage people to get involved in a peer support group outside of Luna, whether it’s AA, SMART, or Refuge Recovery, but group involvement isn't a requirement of treatment.

What happens if I relapse while in treatment?

It depends. We don't discharge people for making mistakes or for struggling with an issue that they came here to address. Having said that, safety is our number one concern. If a client is honest with us and has a desire to keep making progress we can work with them. Sometimes a use event means that a person needs a higher level of care and sometimes it doesn't.Long story short it depends on multiple factors, but we would never turn our back on someone who has a desire to make progress.

What questions should I ask when looking for treatment?

Every individual is different, with a different set of needs. When it comes to treatment for substance use or mental health, finding the best fit for yourself or a loved one can be a daunting task. There are all sorts of philosophies, care models, ownership structures, modalities, etc.

For us, we believe in getting to know our clients before they enter treatment, so we can make sure we're the best fit for them and vice versa. We gather as much information as possible to help understand a client's needs and make an appropriate admission or referral.

If you're looking for treatment, here are some good questions to ask:

What is your client to staff ratio?
What are the qualifications of your clinicians?
Who is not a good fit for your program?
What does family involvement look like?
What is your general treatment philosophy?

We invite you to ask these questions of us and encourage you to ask them of any treatment center you may be considering.

What should I do if my loved one isn't willing to accept help?

This is a common situation, as individuals often can’t see the severity of their need on their own. We offer a support group for families that meets at the same time each week. In addition, we invite you to call us to explore case management, interventions, and treatment options.

Cost and Insurance

Do you accept insurance?

Yes! We are in-network with some insurance companies and are skilled at working with out-of-network benefits as well. If you give us a call, we can verify your policy and let you know what it will cover toward your treatment.

Do I need insurance to get help from Luna?

No. Insurance isn’t required to receive treatment at Luna, but it is not a free resource either. Due to the caliber of staff and facilities it is not feasible to offer our services for free, but we are willing to work with families to try to find a financial solution or help them find the resources they need.

How much does Luna cost?

Cost is dependent on programming and scope of services offered. If you do have health insurance, it can often cover a large portion of the costs. We would be happy to look at your policy to give you an idea of what could be covered.

Treatment and Support Programs

What makes Luna different from other treatment centers?

Luna is a family-owned treatment center focused on quality over quantity. We offer truly individualized care and the flexibility and expertise to meet your needs. Our clinicians hold graduate degrees and are highly skilled and trained in their field, which allows us to be holistic in our approach and our ability to treat all mental health conditions. Treatment team coordination and communication with all parties is essential to making sure we address all concerns as we move toward achieving treatment goals. To that end, we work with family members and current or previous care providers to understand a client's history and current issues.

What is the average length of stay in one of your programs?

Length of stay or program duration really depends on the individual; there is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but there are general trends. Generally, it's best for individuals to "step down" to lower levels of care as they make progress in treatment. In a best-case scenario, a client would have at least six months of treatment and six months of continuing care through community-based programs and private therapy, plus continued medical oversight.

Research shows that reaching certain milestones improves overall outcomes, and reaching a year in recovery from both addiction and mental health issues is an important milestone. At Luna, if someone meets criteria for inpatient treatment, we have a 35-day minimum stay and prefer to have a client in treatment between 45 and 60 days, with a step down into outpatient treatment (PHP/IOP). Outpatient treatment typically lasts three months, after which a client then steps down again to continuing care services.

Will I go through individual therapy, group therapy, or both?

Clients at Luna participate in both individual and group therapy. The amount of group and individual therapy per week varies by program.

Why would I be meeting with a doctor?

To make sure you’re taken care of physically and mentally, you may meet with a doctor. Clients sometimes need medication for detoxification or post-acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS). Some clients need medication for cravings or co-occurring mental health issues, and our doctors can address and adjust medication needs as necessary. Clients can continue care with a Luna doctor even after being discharged from our program.

What's meant by "co-occurring" issues?

Typically, people have developed an unhealthy relationship with alcohol or drugs due to an underlying, or "co-occurring," issue. Most of our clients are struggling with one or a combination of concerns, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder, a personality disorder, or grief, in addition to substance use disorder.

Our goal at Luna is to begin to treat the underlying causes that are driving substance use disorder and help our clients learn new techniques and coping skills that are supportive to their wellbeing.

Is family involved in the recovery process?

Family is typically involved in the recovery process. We want families to understand how to best support their loved ones as they move along the path to recovery. We have a family support group, led by a family therapist, that meets each week. This group acts as a support and educational group for family members.

Does treatment end when my treatment program ends?

Clients and their families are always welcome at Luna. We do regular follow-up calls after a client completes their programming, and we offer a free family support group led by a licensed family and marriage therapist. We also offer a therapist-led alumni group, which meets each week. We know that recovery is a lifelong process and we want clients to always feel like they're a part of Luna.

Residential Treatment

How many people are being cared for in your residential treatment center?

We maintain a limit of only nine clients at a time at our residential treatment center. Having a small group allows us to truly customize an individual’s treatment experience and provide a consistent level of care. Clients live with a small group of like-minded residents in a comfortable, structured community environment.

Does "residential treatment" mean I'll be living in a house 24/7?

Yes and no. Clients who choose our residential program typically live at our facility for 30 to 90 days while receiving clinical services. Our facility is a comfortable and safe environment where all your needs are taken care of. Our goal is to remove distractions from normal day-to-day life so you can focus entirely on yourself and your wellbeing.

Having fun in sobriety is important. (You can have fun and be sober!) We offer outings several times a week for residential clients. Clients are also able to ride bikes and go on walks when accompanied by a staff member.

What can I expect during inpatient/residential treatment?

We treat a maximum of nine people at a time in our residential program, and programming takes place seven days a week. Clients meet with a member of our medical team each day to discuss overall medical and health concerns while in treatment. In addition, all clients are evaluated by one of our psychiatrists to help support and address co-occurring mental health issues. Each client is assigned to a primary therapist who becomes their main contact and care director. Clients meet with their primary therapist multiple times a week for individual, one-on-one therapy, and group therapy and educational groups are also provided every day during treatment. Clients meet with their whole treatment team once a week to assess progress and next steps in the recovery process.

After an initial landing period, clients are provided access to their electronics for an hour a day, allowing for family and work communication. On Sundays, one of our family therapists hosts a family therapy group session that includes invited family members.

At our residential treatment facility, we provide housekeeping and laundry services, and our executive chef serves delicious and nutritious food. Overall, clients can expect a warm, inviting, and nonjudgmental setting with extensive professional support.
