Withdrawal Management (Detox)
A Medically-Supervised Process
Our Withdrawal Management Program is designed for individuals experiencing severe substance use disorder, where the risks associated with abrupt cessation are significant and medical care and monitoring are needed. Our program is also suited to individuals seeking a safe and controlled environment to navigate the initial stages of recovery, who are prepared to continue on with treatment following detoxification.
We offer withdrawal management on both an inpatient and outpatient basis, and the process typically lasts between 5 and 14 days. We customize withdrawal treatment for each client's individual needs, beginning with an assessment of multiple factors, including:
Detoxification can involve extreme withdrawal symptoms and potentially severe health complications or even death, necessitating professional medical supervision. At Luna, our withdrawal management program is directed by Dr. Bo Allaire and supported by our staff of professional nurses and recovery specialists.
During the peak stage of detox, when most substances have left the body, extreme withdrawal symptoms can heighten the risk of relapse. Symptoms can include physical discomfort, insomnia, headaches, and anxiety, in addition to confusion, hallucinations, seizures, and delirium tremens. This is a period when medication is commonly used to help ease the symptoms of withdrawal. Our medical team may incorporate FDA-approved medications into treatment to assist with decreasing cravings, managing withdrawal symptoms, and blocking reward effects in the brain.
