Dr John O Neill
Dr. O’Neill works closely with all aspects of clinical programming at Luna to foster best practices and creative treatment techniques. His personal mission is to help clients find joy and learn to laugh and have fun as part of recovery. To promote continued staff training and development, he encourages all clinicians to further their understanding of best practices in substance use and mental health treatment.
In the past 30 years, Dr. O’Neill has developed and presented 100+ programs on family dynamics, attachment, trauma, suicide prevention, addictions, and co-occurring disorders. He has been featured by media outlets including ESPN’s Outside the Lines, Great Day Houston, Fox News, National Public Radio, SiriusXM, and KTRH Radio. He is also a training consultant for the Harris County Sheriff’s Department.
Before joining Luna, Dr. O’Neill spent 16 years in various roles at The Menninger Clinic, as well as 12 years directing the mental health and sport performance programs for the Houston Astros and Major League Baseball’s Umpire Development Program. He holds a doctoral degree with an emphasis in behavioral health and a master’s degree in social work from Arizona State University.
Outside of work, he spends time with his wife, Wendy; three adult children; and two grandchildren. He is known for loving Guns N’ Roses and Ted Lasso. He also enjoys attending concerts, cooking, exploring the outdoors, and reading.
